Position Title: Copy-Editor
Salary: 2 900 Euros Net / month + benefits (salary exempt of French income tax, annual bonus)
Duration: 2 years – Renewable for an unlimited number of times according to performance
Context :
The Organisation is an intergovernmental organisation recognized by the World Trade Organization as a reference Organisation for intergovernmental standards concerning zoonoses and the sanitary safety of international trade in animals and products of animal origin, and is in charge of improving animal health, veterinary public health and animal welfare worldwide, as well as transparency of the global animal disease situation.
The Org maintains permanent relations with over 70 international and regional Organisations and has 12 regional offices around the globe.

You will support the work of the Publications Unit in producing high-quality publications by editing manuscripts to a high standard, providing editorial guidance, and overseeing the work of freelance service providers. You will work as part of a small team consisting of the Head of the Unit, the Sales and Marketing Manager, a Secretary/Translator who coordinates the production of our trilingual magazine and edits the French-language version, and a Secretary whose primary responsibility is coordinating the peer-review process for the Scientific and Technical Review.

Responsibilities :
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Publications Unit, you will be responsible for the following:
Copy-editing scientific articles
- Editing manuscripts for the Scientific and Technical Review (text, tables, figures and references) for accuracy, clarity, consistency and completeness;
- Corresponding with authors regarding changes to the manuscript.
Coordinating the work assigned to freelancers
- Assigning work to freelance copy-editors and proofreaders and highlighting possible problems;
- Following up on assignments to ensure compliance with deadlines;
- Checking work carried out by freelancers (suggesting additional modifications if necessary, re-contacting the author, ensuring consistency across all manuscripts).
Proofreading before printing
- Assigning DOIs and preparing manuscripts and figures for the typesetter;
- Correcting proofs and liaising with the typesetter to prepare papers for printing.
Participating in the development of work processes
- Updating the publications style guide;
- Identifying and proposing relevant work tools.
Qualifications and Experience

- A Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences with at least three to five years’ experience of writing and/or copy-editing;
- A Bachelor’s degree in Literature, Languages, Journalism, Media or related Social Sciences with at least three to five years’ experience of writing and/or editing scientific texts;
- Professional training in copy-editing and/or proofreading skills would be an asset;
- Experience with editing texts written by authors for whom English is a second language would be an asset.

Required skills:

Technical skills

· English as a first language;
· Good knowledge of French;
· Excellent written English and editing skills, including impeccable spelling, grammar and punctuation;
· Good knowledge of Word (e.g. templates, styles, macros, and find & replace using wildcards) as well as PowerPoint and Excel (for editing figures and graphs);
· Strong internet search skills.

The following skills would be an asset:

· Familiarity with editing tools (e.g. PerfectIt software);
· The ability to read Spanish.

Soft skills

· Excellent level of concentration, precision and attention to detail;
· Capacity to work respecting tight deadlines;
· Ability to work independently and within a team;
· Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships with authors.
